Soulwax/ E-talking

World-renowned as two of the most eclectic live acts, both Soulwax and 2ManyDJs' shows have been notoriously high energy, mashing every type of dance music they can get their Belgian mitts on from the likes of Aphex Twin's infamous Windowlicker and Major Lazer's Pon De Floor to Donna Summer, accompanied by mad eye-popping real time visuals.

• Over the years do you feel there has been a particular progression over how your sets as 2ManyDJs?

Soulwax: In our sets we mainly play out things that are the new tracks that we have been listening to. The thing with our sets is that we never really been attached to any genres… the whole thing is what we like and we don’t really understand when something fits into set genres like tech-house, to techno, it’s all dance music. It’s about playing lots of music that we love that works with a big crowd for us….

• So is there anyone you’d like to get together and be collaborating with here?

Soulwax: No… not into collaborations – there are too many in the world. Like remixes, it’s just for the names involved and not enough about the music. Sometimes it’s good but not for the moment we’re staying away from all that.

• When will you be getting back into the studio?

Soulwax: We’ve been working on our Radio Soulwax project for the last year and a half… it’s like 24 compilations, each with different music and visual theme which will be available through a free internet radio station, we’re nearing the end…

• How did the idea of Radio Soulwax come about?

Soulwax: We’d made a compilation and it was a surprise how much of a success it was… it wouldn’t make sense to do another at this point though, to release another mix compilation and put it on the shelves… the world has changed so much since then, it wouldn’t have made a similar impact.

• What happened to the Nite Versions?

Soulwax: We were thinking about doing more, but nothing’s planned at the moment. Then we want to do our next album with two different versions…

• As your live shows tend to be so visual, have you looked into the idea of utilising 3D technology for them?

Soulwax: We looked into this for our next shows but we came to the conclusion that what makes it [our shows] cool is that it’s so 2D. Once you make it 3D it loses it special touch, like we may have the right people to be using the right technology, but we haven’t had the right project yet.

• What are you most looking forward to next?

Soulwax: Launching Radio Soulwax

Taylor Jacobson/ Any advice for breaking into the fashion industry?

Taylor Jacobson landed on the fashion scene as the sassy, impeccably-dressed, no-nonsense stylist assistant from Bravo’s The Rachel Zoe Project. But after four years of working with celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, the Los Angeles-based Taylor is making her own way, styling on a number of movies and commercials and working with a host of private clients.

• How did your denim collaboration for Kasil come about?

I was working with Kasil on a photo shoot and met their publicist, who thought I might be a good fit for the brand. I was introduced to the creative director and it grew from there. The ultra-skinny Minx and trouser-y Geek styles are my two favorites.

• What's fun to pair with jeans as we head into fall? 

For fall, the color camel is huge. Wear jeans with oxfords, a little button down shirt with short sleeves, or shrunken blazers. It’s kind of like prep school meets garage band.

• You're an L.A. girl — did The Hills accurately represent Los Angeles style?

All the girls on The Hills are super cute! They were always wearing cute tops and great jeans with Louboutins and a Chanel bag. They were super stylish and I think that’s a fair representation of L.A.

• Do you have any tips for back to school dressing?

Get a great blazer because you can wear them with skirts, leggings and a long tank top, or with jeans, or over dresses. A great black blazer will last you all year round. You can roll up the sleeves in the summer. Your blazer can be from Gap or Neimans, you don’t have to blow all the money that you’ve worked hard on.
Also get ballet flats in a fun color — a red, hot pink, or royal blue. If you usually dress conservatively, you can add a fun kick of color in your shoe area.

• Who are your favorite young designers?

Kimberly Ovitz is super cute. I also like Cheap Monday, even though it has been around for a while, and Life/After/Denim has really great guys stuff.

• How do you get your hair so wonderfully blond?

Ha! I bleached it for four years but it takes a toll after a while, so my hair’s starting to break and fall. I used to get it bleached every three weeks, so maybe don’t be so neurotic and go every few months instead. I also put a lot of baby powder in it. I walk around with mini baby powder bottles in my handbag, and it makes your hair so much lighter.

• Any advice for breaking into the fashion industry?

You have to have the will because it is cutthroat and it is not glamorous and it is a difficult industry to be in. Start interning immediately. Figure out where it’s happening in your town. Find out where the local playhouses are and see if their wardrobe department needs help. Work in a clothing store and learn how to put outfits together and make people feel good about the way they dress.

• Your ex-boss’s new show premiered this week. Are you going to watch it? Do you miss it?

No and no. And no. And no. And no. And no.

Alice has a sister, Charlotte, and two brothers, Alex and Max: Charlotte, shoe designer behind the label Charlotte Olympia, is planning her wedding, scheduled for May 2010, Alex is a gallery manager, known to the gossip columns to be Charlotte Casiraghi's boyfriend, Max is a student.

Passionated about music, she is the drummer of Metal Thrush, a band formed by Isabella Ramsey, Laura Fraser and Emma Chitty, both models. "Playing drums is my workout." Soon the group will release the first single.

Uffie/ Electropop and Fashion

• You could start by telling me the origin of your name. Is “Uffie” your birth name?

Ah! Uffie is the nickname actually my dad gave me. “œuf” is an egg in French, so that somehow turned into Uffie before I can even remember.

• You are currently in Paris, but where did you grow up?

I was born in Miami actually, I moved to Hong Kong when I was four, and then I moved back to Florida: Miami, Fort Lauderdale. Then Connecticut, then Missouri for a while, and then Paris when I was 15.

• You’ve been there for awhile then. How does Paris compare to any of the other places you’ve lived?

You can walk everywhere, which is nice. The food’s amazing. It just really has a slower pace, everyone enjoys life here. They take their time, long dinners. It just has really calm vibes, and there is always something to do, always an exhibition happening. It’s a very good balance.

• So how did you get into rap from that childhood?

I started listening to a lot of hip hop when I came back from the US to Hong Kong. And when I started making music, I was friends with DJ Feadz, and he was kind of pushing me to do vocals for him, so I wrote “Pop the Glock”. And things just kind of went crazy from there!
